The Nepean Great River Walk could get a new $900,000 eatery and function centre under a development application lodged with Penrith Council last week.
The plans, given a working name of Orange Fields, includes a cafe, restaurant and bakery along with a playground, vegetable gardens and enclosures for farm animals.
According to documents attached to the DA, the new eatery would be at 44-50 Tench Ave, Jamisontown, between two residential premises.
A carpark would be built at the back of the 2.32-hectare block of land and a path would run through an existing orange orchard to the restaurant/cafe near Tench Ave.
The restaurant/cafewould be built from the existing brick building on the land, with some additions to create an outdoor dining area.
There would also be an outdoor dining pavilion, a wood-fired pizza hut, and a farmer’s co-op pavilion, as well as a water tank built on the land.
The new facility would be open from 7am to 9pm daily under DA plans, with opening hours extended to midnight on Friday and Saturday for pre-booked events such as weddings or corporate functions.
Plans show the restaurant/cafe could take 400 patrons per day on weekends and have a maximum of 20 staff on at any given time.
According to documents the proposal would “provide a positive social impact by providing a family and outdoor oriented food and drink premises with a farm feel”.
The proposal is considered “unique and a stand-alone destination” that will be “beneficial to Jamisontown and the surrounding area”.
The business would be locally owned and would create up to 20 jobs.
The developers and designers of the project have been contacted for comment.
