Mount Vernon could be home to a brand-new childcare centre in the near future under plans lodged with Penrith Council last week.

The 96-place centre would cost more than $3.3 million, and have spots for 96 children between the ages of zero and five.

The plans are for a plot of land on Mount Vernon Rd that is more than 10,000 sqm in a currently semirural/residential area.

A development application was originally lodged with Penrith Council on May 23, but the development was not supported.

The updated application was lodged on December 18.

Under new plans, the centre would have parking for 32 vehicles to be accessed from a one-way entry on Mount Vernon Rd.

There would be spots for 16 children aged up to two, 20 spots for children aged two or three and 60 spots for children aged three to five.

The centre would operate from 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with 19 staff members.

According to documents attached to the application, the development “has been designed to enhance and respond sensitively to its setting, creating a space that reflects the desired scale and significance of the immediate precinct”.

The documents say the “scale, massing and height of the building is appropriate for the site and will complement the surrounding context”, and that there are “no significant adverse impacts on the surrounding properties in terms of sunlight access, views or visual and acoustic privacy.”

The applicants have been contacted for comment.
