Extra security and surveillance has been called in at a western Sydney school, where a 43-year-old man allegedly committed acts of animal cruelty and bestiality on its farm animals.
George Danakis, of Blacktown, did not apply for bail at Penrith Local Court on Thursday when 14 charges, including break and enter, destroy or damage property, commit an act of cruelty upon an animal, and bestiality, were mentioned.
It’s alleged the alleged the crimes against goats and sheep took place on the grounds of St Marys Senior High School about 7.50pm Wednesday.
Police launched an investigation into reports of break and enter offences between April 27 and May 18, leading to Danakis’ arrest.
A NSW Education Department spokeswoman said the school had increased security and surveillance following the arrest.
“All animals on site at the school have been examined by a veterinarian and are all in a stable condition,” she said.
“As this is a NSW Police matter, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
The court heard Danakis suffers mental health issues and takes daily tablets and monthly injections of the medication Abilify, which treats conditions such as bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and schizophrenia.
He is due to return to Penrith Local Court on June 20 after a brief is prepared.
