It’s been just over eight years since the beloved old Log Cabin Hotel burnt down — but a new hotel could soon rise from its ashes.
The Press can reveal developers have their eyes on the riverside site on Memorial Ave as plans were discussed in one of Penrith Council’s access committee meeting last month.
While a development application has not been submitted to the council, it is expected one will be lodged either this month, or next.
It is understood Laundy Hotels is behind the plans.
FDC Construction has teamed up with Design Confidence and Team 2 Architecture on the design, which is expected to be finalised within the next four weeks.
The new hotel is expected to be two storeys with an upper-level function space, and up-market restaurant, and a deck that overlooks the Nepean River.
The plans could also include an inclusive playground on the top level as well as a beer garden.
Members of the access committee had concerns with plans to have the carpark on a different lot and the difficulty of travelling from the hotel site to the city centre.
The riverside site had been home to a pub since the early 1800s, and the original Log Cabin was built in 1926 as the Log House.
It became the Log Cabin Hotel in 1939 and lasted for 73 years before burning down on the evening of March 8, 2012.
A project to build a footbridge through the site was approved in 2014, and the Yandhai Nepean Crossing was officially opened on October 28, 2018.
Laundy Hotels has been contacted for comment.
