A man in his 30s was rushed to hospital after being hit by a vehicle along the Great Western Highway in Kingswood yesterday morning.

Police said the man attempted to cross the highway near Bringelly Rd when he was hit by a passing car.

According to police, initial accounts of the incident suggest the pedestrian may have been at fault for the collision rather than the vehicle.

However, an eyewitness said the man was hit by a “white civil truck” and believes the driver “didn’t realise he had hit someone”.

The witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, described the scene as “horrific and confronting”.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said they attended the scene at 11.40am with five ambulance crews and a CareFlight helicopter.

The spokesman said the man had suffered a “nasty head injury”, and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Police closed two eastbound lanes of the Great Western Highway for about three hours after the incident, and were seen taking photos and evidence near the Kingswood railway station.
