Penrith Council has begun work on removing the asbestos at Jamison Park and has declared the site does not pose any risk.

In June, Jamison Park was temporarily closed due to the discovery of building waste believed to contain asbestos. Council has since completed an investigation into the South Penrith off-leash dog park, which concluded the park does not pose a safety risk.

“As part of Council’s assessment of the situation, a licensed asbestos assessor was engaged to undertake environmental investigations in the dog park,” a council spokesperson said.

“The investigation revealed that a section of the park at the northern end requires remediation.

“Importantly, the Licensed Asbestos Assessor has outlined that the site does not pose a risk to the community outside the park itself.”

Council expects the site to be open later this month.

Other dog parks available to the community include:

●Soling Cres, Cranebrook
