Construction has started on the new shopping precinct in Caddens.
The four hectare site, to be known as Caddens Corner, will include a Woolworths and BWS store, specialty retail and food outlets, a childcare precinct, a medical centre and gym, a 500 space car park and an EV electric vehicle charging facility.
The site is owned by Western Sydney University and the university’s vice-president of finance and resources, Peter Pickering, said Caddens Corner is part of a Penrith campus master plan and Werrington redevelopment.
“Our Penrith campus is set to become a cornerstone of the Penrith Health and Education Precinct — a place where people can live, learn and work in a community with connectivity, facilities for industry and retail, open space, and a high level of amenity,” Mr Pickering said.
Located on O’Connell St, the new shopping hub will have all day trading hours.
David Hopper is one of the development managers for the project and said he hopes the new hub will not only fill a need in the local community, but also draw tourists from outside the area.
“The aim is to provide local residents, nearby workers and the broader Penrith community with a centre of activity and an attractive place to meet,” Mr Hopper said.
“We are confident everyday convenience combined with unique aspects like the natural play areas, water play, the fire pit and the scope for musicians to perform in the dining precinct, will draw people from outside the catchment to Caddens Corner and create robust night time economy.”
The project is on track to open in Spring 2020.
