A $46 million vision for a major shopping centre and residential precinct in Glenmore Park has been given the green light by the NSW Planning Department.

It will transform the greenfield site into a four-storey shopping and residential precinct with bustling promenades, cafes, shops and showrooms.

The Sydney Western City Planning Panel approved the staged development fro a neighbourhood shopping centre and shop top housing at 90-98 Glenmore Ridge Drive, Glenmore Park, through deferred commencement this month.

147 apartments are included in the approved plans.

The plans for the precinct include a major supermarket, medical centre, gym, swim school and childcare centre.

A display showroom, cafe, 23 shopfronts including a liquor store, chemist, and discount store are also included in the plans.

A planner for the proposal said 147 residential units would be built across three four-storey buildings.

“The proposed retail and apartment development centres around the idea of creating a community focused village,” the planner said. “the subject site has been earmarked to provide future commercial needs for the emerging suburb within Glenmore Park Stage two.

“The proposal promotes the economic use and development of the land.”

The planner said, due to the size and scale of the project, five construction stages had been developed as part of the plan.

Stage one would include the construction of a commercial showroom and cafe, while stage two would see the ground level construction of commercial sites across three blocks as well as parking, promenades and public domains.

Stage three will see the construction of three storeys of residential apartments in the first block, while stage four and five would see blocks B and C constructed.

A Penrith Council planner said the joint regional planning panel imposed a series of conditions on the deferred commencement of the development, including restrictions on urban design and landscape, as well as height and scale.
