A dodgy removalist who held his clients’ furniture hostage in demand of more money has been thrown behind bars.
Dione Trevor Blissett, 42, of East Kurrajong, had an appeal dismissed by Judge Jennifer English at Katoomba District Court on Tuesday.
Blissett had appealed convictions handed down by Magistrate Brian van Zuylen last year on five counts of larceny as a bailee.
His first victim was David Wilkinson, from Waratah, who had an antique desk held by Blissett between November and December, 2017.
The next victim was Tim Willson who had the contents of his home held by Blissett for just over two months between December, 2017, and February, 2018, at Panania.
Willson told a hearing last year that Blissett had demanded $1550 to release his furniture after an initial payment of $1600.
Blissett also held the property of Jatin Khanna in Glenmore Park for 14 days in January, 2018, the property of Chris Fullargar between January 15 and February 8, 2018, in Dee Why, and personal items of Carina Burgess on March 3, 2018, in Mosman.
During a brief hearing before Judge English on Monday, Blissett claimed transcripts of his case in the Local Court were “corrupted” and attempted to enter CD’s with a recording of his case as evidence.
However, Judge English denied his attempts, saying the transcripts were “certified” while the disks weren’t.
Blissett’s convictions on all five charges were upheld. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail with a non-parole period of 12 months.
He will first be eligible for release on May 20, 2021.
