A drug dealing dad from Sydney’s west will spend at least another two years behind bars over his involvement in commercial-scale cocaine supply.

Darren Peachey, 38, pleaded guilty to large commercial cocaine supply and commercial cocaine supply in relation to more than 2kg of cocaine he pushed between June 2020 and March 2021.

Agreed police facts tendered to the court reveal the Glenmore Park father and former Blacktown City Council employee supplied 1275g of cocaine to a syndicate operating throughout parts of western Sydney and Bathurst.

The father-of-one supplied a further 850g through smaller-scale, individual deals for which he charged roughly $300 per gram.

At Penrith District Court on December 12, Judge Karen Robinson convicted Peachey and sentenced him to an overall prison term of seven years, with a non-parole period of three years and nine months.

With time served since his arrest in March 2021, Peachey will first be eligible for parole on December 9 2024.

The sentence was subject to a 25 per cent discount for Peachey’s early guilty plea and also took into account an additional charge of participating in a criminal group.

The court previously heard Peachey was an upline supplier for a syndicate, buying cocaine by the ounce and selling it up the chain in return for cash.

In 2020, Peachey was working for Blacktown City Council and had recently moved into a newly-built home with his wife when he first engaged in drug supply.

Unbeknown to his wife, Peachey was spending around $600 a week on his own cocaine habit, which he hid from his then-pregnant wife.

Despite his involvement with a multimillion-dollar syndicate, Peachey revealed to the court he was “in more debt than ever” and had “absolutely nothing left”.

“I was using and paying for drugs and I had different kind of loans I was trying to pay for,” Peachey said at his sentence hearing.

“We’d go the pubs and clubs, I was putting a lot of what I made from drugs into TAB and pokies.”

The court heard he had nothing left of roughly $40,000 to $50,000 in profits.

“I haven’t benefited from this, I’m in more debt than ever before,” Peachey said.

“Jail takes everything away from you and I’m disgusted at my selfish behaviour and will never forgive myself.”

Since he went into custody, Peachey has worked in the jail’s cafe, completed a Certificate I and II in hospitality, and had been attending Narcotics Anonymous.
