Cody Nelson jailed over child abuse material charges

A former IT worker who described his sick sexual fantasies to 13-year-old girl and downloaded vile child abuse and bestiality material across a seven-year period has been jailed.

Cody Nelson, 27 of Blaxland, appeared in Penrith District Court last Monday, to be sentenced following previous pleas of guilty to 19 charges relating to possession and transmission of child abuse material.

A search warrant executed on a Blaxland property in August 2021, where he was living with his parents, resulted in five devices being seized, including a work laptop, containing a total of 826 photos and 457 videos of child abuse material.

The court heard Nelson first viewed child abuse material in 2014, aged 19, and continued to download and exchange it in vile internet groups until his arrest at the age of 26.

Under the usernames “Fluffypolarbear” and “Mr Bear”, Nelson would send and receive the vile material over Instagram and Telegram, the worst of which depicted young children engaged in sexual acts with dogs.

Nelson would also rate the material based on how young the victim looked and in one conversation he complained to a user named “Robbert” he’d already seen the material “a million times” and the victims “ain’t even that young.”

Agreed police facts also reveal in March 2020 Nelson began chatting online to a 13-year-old girl he met through gaming groups, and persuaded her to send nude photos.

Initially, while chatting in a group conversation, Nelson told the girl he was aged about “16-18” before another group member wrote: “Shut up Cody, you’re like 24.”

During the police investigation the girl provided screenshots of their messages in which Nelson referred to himself as “Daddy” and described his graphic sexual fantasies involving her.

The court previously heard the victim was “awkward and uncertain” with what Nelson was confronting her with and wrote back to him: “Did you write that to me or some one else?”

Cody Nelson was sentenced to an aggregate term of imprisonment of three years, eight months with a non-parole period of 22 months.
