Two men have died in fatal workplace accidents in the space of two weeks, with the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU) vowing to ensure such tragedies aren’t repeated.

A man died after being trapped under a forklift at a Charles St, St Marys facility on Monday morning, less than a fortnight after another man was fatally injured after being struck by a reversing forklift at a Banksmeadow business premises.

The AMWU NSW and ACT secretary Cory Wright said the union would work to find out what was the cause of the fatal tragedy at St Marys on Monday.

“Safety in the workplace should always be the first priority so that no one has to experience the tragedy we saw yesterday,” he said.

“The union will be working with all involved to find out what happened and ensure it doesn’t happen again.

“When employers tell us safety isn’t union business, we have no tolerance for that kind of thing, not when people’s lives are at stake.”

The union comments comes as a third man, aged in his 20s, was crushed by a boulder weighing about 500kg at a Penrith worksite on Tuesday.

He was extricated by Fire and Rescue NSW crews and taken to hospital for treatment.
