A Caddens father has used his love of Halloween for a spooky fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis Australia.

Michael Domotor has always had an affection for Halloween and all things dark and spooky. For the past several years he has turned his home into a Halloween spectacular, going all out with everything from turning his front yard into a cemetery to holding pumpkin carving.

As well as creating a spooky aesthetic, this year Mr Domotor is also decorating his house to raise money and awareness for a cause close to his heart, cystic fibrosis and organ donation.

“I got a few more years with my sister thanks to the person who donated their lungs,” he said.

“My younger sister was born with cystic fibrosis and Melissa was one of the lucky ones who got a double lung transplant, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough for her,” Mr Domotor said.

“What I want to do is use this platform as a way to raise awareness for the disease and organ donation.

So this year he has turned it up a notch, completely transforming his house into a swamp to create an unforgettable experience for the trick or treaters in the neighbourhood.

“This year I was trying to work out what we could do and what we ended up settling on is a swamp shack in the yard and we are going with a swampy type voodoo theme,” Mr Domotor said.

“I am trying to make it as an immersive experience as I can, so when they get to the house I want to make them feel like they are in a swamp.”

Dad to three-year-old Harrison, Mr Domotor said his love of the American holiday started when he was a kid and grew from his love of horror films.

Now Halloween is a time to unwind and connect with the community.

“For me Halloween is a time to unwind, I have a high pressure stressful job and unleashing my creativity and building the props helps me let that out.

“Christmas is very much about family, Halloween is about the community and a great way to get to know your neighbours.”
