A Cranebrook family has received a surprise renovation that has also brought closure following tragedy.
Amanda and Morgan Campbell recently had their lives turned upside down following the death of Amanda’s brother.
The couple, already with two kids of their own, took in their niece and nephew, making it a crowded household.
“From then our world changed, they had nothing but the clothes they were wearing,” Ms Campbell said.
“It made everything cramped for space and in the end we decided we needed to do something about it.”
After attempting the renovations themselves the couple soon “ran out of money, time and energy”, which brought the work to a grinding halt.
That was until The Today Show and Hipages came on board and surprised the family live on air last Wednesday by completing the renovations.
Ms Campbell could not put into words what the surprise meant to her family and said she spent all day in tears.
“It has been phenomenal and we have just been so overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone involved,” she said.
“It just relieves so much pressure for us to be able to sit down and enjoy the house without the gaps between the windows and walls.”
While the mother of two instantly fell in love with the new lounge room, the rest of the family has their minds in the toilet.
“Everyone has been so excited about the toilet door and that they can now close the laundry door and have some privacy on the toilet.”
Ms Campbell said the generosity of strangers has given her more than just a new house, it has given her closure in the face of tragedy.
“When you are going through something so horrific and tragic you feel like you are on this emotional rollercoaster and you look around and you have this feeling like you have destroyed your house.
“It gives a sense of closure a little bit and now we can move on and there is not this unfinished project hanging over us.”
