A knife-wielding teenager who kicked an Uber food delivery rider in the head and robbed him before stealing his scooter outside Wentworthville train station has pleaded guilty to the terrifying offence.

The boy, who cannot be named because he is under 18, fronted Parramatta Children’s Court on Wednesday after he was charged with armed robbery with an offensive weapon following the assault of 20-year-old worker Karandeep Singh on May 18.

Court documents reveal the boy, who is on bail, kicked the victim in the face while he was checking his phone during a break at a bus stop on The Kingsway.

The attack caused him to fall backwards and drop his keys and mobile phone before the offender produced a knife and demanded money shortly before 10pm.

When Mr Singh told the offender he didn’t have cash but he could go to the ATM to withdraw money, the attacker agreed and forced him to walk to Station St while wielding a knife alongside him.

But the brave delivery driver outsmarted the teen while they were at the Commonwealth Bank ATM. When Mr Singh asked if they could make their way to the ANZ ATM so he wasn’t charged a Commonwealth Bank withdrawal fee, he escaped to the Pizza Hut where he raised the alarm with staff, setting the offender fleeing back towards the station.

He stole the delivery backpack and helmet before he drove away.

But a witness and Mr Singh weren’t going to let him escape and chased him in a car from The Kingsway, through Station, Dunmore and Lane streets where the attacker hurled the helmet at the pair’s car when he saw them following him.

They lost sight of him at Finlaysons Creek, near Lytton Street Park, where police later found the dumped scooter.

Court documents reveal the boy, who has been living in Australia with his aunt and uncle for about a year since he moved to Australia, confessed to the shocking crime after his uncle read a media release about the incident and approached him about it.

He turned himself into Wentworthville police station and cops later searched his room where they found the scooter keys.

Court papers state “due to the violent nature of the offence, the Young Person refused to (be) interview(ed)’’.

Court papers state the incident was so serious it was not eligible to be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

At court before Magistrate Tracy Sheedy, the offender’s bail was continued.

The offender will be sentenced on October 8.
