Guildford man Bilal Fadel — who is accused of killing Nicholas Grayndler and attempting to murder another man known to him at Merrylands on Monday — has been charged after the alleged double stabbing.

Bilal, 26, was charged with murder after he allegedly attacked 40-year-old Nicholas Grayndler at Uren Place, Merrylands, about 12.30am.

He was also charged with the attempted murder of Grant Kelly, 49, shortly before that at Bertha St when he allegedly stabbed him in the neck at his mother’s house and left him fighting for his life.

Mr Grayndler was home alone at the time but a neighbour alerted police. The men were rushed to Westmead Hospital but Mr Grayndler died shortly afterwards.

Cumberland Detective Inspector Simon Glasser said the three men had mutual friends and the nature of their relationship was under investigation.

“There’s no (drug) dealing we’re aware of or anything like that,’’ he said.

“We’re more so investigating the nature of their relationship. We don’t know how they’re friends but suspect they have a common interest.’’

Det-Insp Glasser said Mr Kelly was heavily sedated in hospital with a “significant throat” injury and had spoken with detectives, who will obtain a formal statement from him soon.

About 2am on Monday, a search by PolAir and the Dog Unit led to the arrest of Fadel at his Bird Ave home.

He was taken to Granville police station and charged with murder and attempted murder, and refused bail.

At Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday, Fadel did not appear via video link and his barrister Ali Cheema represented him.

The matter will return to court in October.
