A 71-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a child in a Wentworthville toilet block in February has made a bid for freedom.
The man accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy at a Wentworthville toilet block has been granted bail after three months in custody.
Police allege Hebersham man Aurelio Tagnipez assaulted the child in the public toilet block on February 15 about 1.20pm, prompting the boy to chase him through the arcade, shout at him and hit him with a book.
Mr Tagnipez allegedly then crossed the road opposite the train station before bystanders thwarted his attempt to catch a taxi, detaining him before police arrived.
He was taken to Granville police station where he was charged with having sexual intercourse with a child aged between 10 and 14.
He was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Court on February 16 when legal aid sought an adjournment for a bail application.
On April 15, Mr Tagnipez was slapped with fresh charges - having sexual intercourse with a child between 10 and 14, intentionally inciting a child (sexual touching) between 10 and 16 and two counts of sexually touching a child between 10 and 16.
At Parramatta Local Court on Thursday, Magistrate Peter Feather granted Mr Tagnipez bail on the condition he reports to Mt Druitt police station each Monday, not approach any international departure point and pay $5000 surety.
The matter will return to the court on June 17.
