Two men charged over fireworks after Guildford grass fire
Two teenage men have been charged after they allegedly set off fireworks and started a rapidly spreading grass fire in a Sydney park during dry and windy conditions.

Two men who allegedly set off fireworks and caused a grass fire in Sydney’s west have been arrested at a fast food restaurant and charged.
Police were called to Bright Park, Guildford after reports of several loud explosions around 2.40pm on Sunday.
Cumberland police officers entered the park and saw exploding and several small grassfires, which spread rapidly in sudden winds.
The NSW Rural Fire Service attended and extinguished the fires.
Two 18-year-old men were subsequently arrested at a Merrylands fast food restaurant and taken to Granville police station.
One man was charged with negligently handling explosives, passenger not disclosing a driver’s identity, and having a knife in a public place.
The second man was also charged with negligently handling explosives and not disclosing a driver’s identity.
They were granted bail to face Parramatta Local Court on January 7 2020.
SafeWork NSW states backyard fireworks are illegal in NSW and those who buy, sell or use them without a licence face heavy fines or imprisonment.
Using fireworks without a licence can attract on-the-spot fines of up to $1000, while selling or purchasing fireworks without a licence can also result in fines of $27,000 and 12 months’ jail.
