Sydney Symphony Under The Stars could be biggest yet
Record crowds are expected at the Sydney Symphony Under The Stars at Parramatta Park this weekend. Conductor Ben Northey shares what audiences can expect at this year’s instalment of the popular concert.
Record crowds are expected at the Sydney Symphony Under The Stars at Parramatta Park this weekend.
The event, returning for its third year at Parramatta, doubled its audience numbers in its first two years.
The beloved Sydney event attracted 7000 guests when it held its first Parramatta concert in 2017 in addition to the long-running show at The Domain.
Last year the event, now solely held at Parramatta Park, attracted an audience of 14,000.
The Crescent has a capacity of 15,000 and Parramatta Park staff encourage visitors to the concert on Saturday night to arrive early and use public transport.
Conductor Benjamin Northey said while it was difficult to estimate numbers for the free show, “judging on the trajectory it’s going to be the biggest we’ve had”.
Northey said audiences came from “all over Sydney” for previous concerts.
“That’s what it’s all about for us, connecting with people and giving people the chance to hear the orchestra without having to come to the Concert Hall at the Opera House,” he said.
Northey said the concert, run as part of Sydney Festival and The Crescent Summer Series, will feature a mix of classical favourites and film music including scores from Harry Potter and Star Wars.

The finale, the 1812 Overture, is also something for audiences to look forward to.
“You get really swept up in that piece and it shows the orchestra doing what they do best,” Northey said.
Sydney Symphony Under The Stars starts at 8pm.
