Parramatta netballer Kristiana Manu’a watches Giants finals fate decided by game in another state

There’s nothing worse than when your fate is in the hands of another team as netballer Kristiana Manu’a discovered this week.

It was one of the most nervous waits of netballer Kristiana Manu’a’s career.

From Saturday afternoon to late Sunday she and her Giants teammates were anxiously waiting a result of a game being played in another state.

The outcome would decide their fate in this year’s 2019 Super Netball competition and it wasn’t good new.

“We were in disbelief I reckon,” said Manu’a, one of the stars of the Giants defence.

The Giants had the chance to nail their spot in the Super Netball semi-finals on Saturday against West Coast Fever but left the door open when they failed to pick up maximum bonus points by winning every quarter of the game.

This allowed the Collingwood Magpies to steal the last spot in the semi-finals with an upset 58-47 victory over cross town rivals, the Melbourne Vixens, on Sunday.

“We had the chance to win it completely but it didn’t go our way, so credit to Magpies,” Manu’a said.

“We all spoke after the game but we are done now. It just ended so suddenly.

“But at least we ended up with a good game.”

The Giants beat defending champions West Coast Fever on Saturday in what was captain Kim Green’s final game in the national competition.

Sunshine Coast Lightning won the minor premiership and will host the major semi-final against the NSW Swifts on Saturday in Queensland.

The winner wins the right to host the grand final while the loser will host the minor premiership against the winner of this weekend’s minor semi between the Magpies and Melbourne Vixens.
