Spike Teio, Bil Ater Benjament charged with murder over fatal stabbing of Josese ‘Joseph’ McGoon at Guildford

Detectives have swooped on an alleged murderer at a fast food outlet, arresting the 26-year-old as the number of men charged over a fatal western Sydney stabbing reached four.

Homicide squad detectives have charged a further two men over their alleged roles in the fatal daylight stabbing of a “knockabout” father-of-six in Sydney’s west, arresting one at a fast food outlet.

Spike Teio and Bil Ater Benjament were this week charged, three months after emergency services rushed to Bangor St in Guildford following reports a man had been assaulted.

Cumberland police attended the scene on the afternoon of July 20, when they were told a group of men had chased Josese “Joseph” McGoon before assaulting him and stabbing his abdomen.

Mr McGoon was nowhere to be found when officers arrived, but police were called to Westmead Hospital about half an hour later after he was driven there with critical injuries.

He died later the same day.

The NSW Police homicide squad, under Strike Force Noyana, last week charged Welken Akot, Nhial Chol Tito, both 23, with murder over their alleged roles in what police described as “a cold-blooded attack on the streets of Sydney”.

Both remain have been refused bail and before the courts.

The arrests continued about 2.40pm on Wednesday, when 26-year-old Teio was taken into custody at an Oporto restaurant at Glenmore Park.

He was taken to Penrith Police Station, where he was charged with murder, participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity, and possessing a dedicated encrypted criminal communication device to commit serious criminal activity.

Teio was refused bail to face Parramatta Local Court on Thursday, when he was remanded in custody to face the same court on December 5.

Strike force detectives then arrested a second 26-year-old man, at Merrylands on Friday about 5am.

Benjament was taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with murder and participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity.

He was refused bail to face Parramatta Local Court on Friday, when he appeared wearing a high-visibility shirt.

Benjament was remanded in custody, with his matter adjourned to December 7.

Investigations under Strike Force Noyana continue.

Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, the homicide squad’s commena last week described Mr McGoon as “a bit of a knockabout”, alleging the 37-year-old had been targeted and the motive may have been drug-related.
