A sacked western Sydney correctional officer – accused of allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting a female colleague in her home – has been hit with additional charges, as a fourth woman comes forward.

NSW Police revealed Scott Barry Hawken, 50, was arrested and charged with 11 additional offences related to the alleged sexual assault of a fourth former colleague on July 20, including six counts of sexual intercourse without consent, one count of assault with act of indecency, and four counts of sexually touch another person without consent.

In June last year, Hawken was charged with the alleged rape of a female prison officer before two additional women came forward in November resulting in the former Silverwater Correctional officer being charged with three counts of assault with act of indecency and a single count of sexual intercourse without consent.

Charges being laid in relation to a fourth complainant last month comes as Hawken prepares to go to trial in the Parramatta District Court on May 6.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal SafeWork NSW has launched an investigation in relation to Corrective Services NSW’s handling of allegations relating to Hawken – which date back to 2011 and 2013.

A NSW Customer Service department spokesman said SafeWork NSW was “investigating allegations of sexual harassment involving Silverwater Correctional Centre”.

Sources close to the investigation said concerns were raised after allegations multiple senior correctional staff were aware of complaints surrounding Hawken.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said in May 2022, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad established Strike Force Reka, “investigating alleged sexual offences”.

“His bail was continued, and he is due to next appear at Penrith Local Court on 22 September 2023,” she said.

A department spokesman said sexual misconduct in the workplace was “utterly unacceptable and Corrective Services NSW takes immediate action to thoroughly investigate all claims”.

“We encourage any staff member who is aware of misconduct in the workplace to report it to Professional Standards and Investigations or NSW Police, so we can continue to identify and act upon instances of wrongdoing,” he said.
