Police at the scene of two car fires in western Sydney

POLICE have been called to two separate car fires within 4km of each other in the early hours of the morning.

FIRE crews have been called to two early morning car blazes in western Sydney.

The first fire totally destroyed the car at 5.39am on Tuesday morning on Welsford St in Merrylands.

Crews from the Merrylands fire unit responded to the call, putting the blaze out in 17 minutes.

Police were called to the Welsford St fire, with the car in proximity to bins, trees and houses.

Less than half an hour later the same crew were called to William St in Granville, 3.8km away after another car was reportedly set on fire.

The car was extinguished in 14 minutes.

Police were also on the scene of the second fire. Both fires were deemed suspicious with investigations continuing.
