Pemulwuy Aged Care centre hit with more than 60 Covid cases
An aged care centre near Parramatta recorded more than 60 Covid cases with staff and residents infected with the virus during a recent outbreak.

Pemulwuy Aged Care Centre has been among the worst facilities hit with Covid outbreaks in December when 61 cases positive to the virus’ most recent wave.
Figures from the Health and Aged Care Department show 11 staff and 50 residents had Covid in December, making it the worst hit aged care facilities across the Parramatta and Cumberland region.
A spokesman for Allity, which operates Pemulwuy centre, said the outbreak started at the facility on November 16 but was declared over on December 15 in accordance with the Public Health Unit guidelines.
“We worked closely with health authorities to monitor residents for symptoms and undertook precautionary testing of residents and visitors in line with health advice,’’ the spokesman said.
“Visitation to the home continued throughout this time based on health advice.
“Our teams are experienced in infection prevention and control procedures and remain focused on the safety and wellbeing of our community. During the outbreak, additional staff were on site to support resident care.
“There have been no further cases at our Pemulwuy community since December 15 and our community remains open to visitors.’’
Health and Aged Care Department data show there were 6588 active Covid cases in 915 active outbreaks in residential aged care centres across Australia since December 22.
There were 338 new outbreaks, 103 resident deaths and 5869 combined new resident and staff cases reported since December 15.
No Covid deaths were reported at facilities across Parramatta and Cumberland.
At Bupa North Rocks, there were 22 cases — 16 residents and six staff.
Sixteen residents at St Vincent’s Care Services Auburn tested positive to Covid.
At Uniting Arrunga Ermington, 15 cases were reported with less than six being staff.
Constitution Hill Aged Care, Pendle Hill Aged Care, Estia Health Merrylands, Guildford Nursing Home, Southern Cross Care Marian Nursing Home at North Parramatta, each had less than six cases.
The department is closed until January 3 and the next update will be published on January 6.
