A woman is in a critical condition after being hit by a car this morning.

A group of firefighters rushed to help a pedestrian who was struck while crossing a busy Merrylands road outside their station.

The woman was crossing Merrylands Rd when a Toyota Prius struck her, causing critical head injuries, outside Merrylands Fire Station about 8.30am.

It is understood the pedestrian, in her 50s, was crossing the road near a school zone but it was not a marked site.

Five firefighters provided first aid, supporting her spine and suppressing bleeding, after a member of the public raced into the station to alert them.

An Ambulance NSW spokesman said three ambulance crews treated the woman before she was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

The incident comes three days after a car hit two girls aged 11 and 13 at Davies St, Merrylands, while they were walking on the footpath.

About 3pm on Tuesday, a black Holden Colorado was travelling south along Davies St and collided with a white Toyota Corolla at the intersection at Morris St.

The collision caused the black utility to mount the kerb, hitting two pedestrians walking along Davies St.

Police would like to speak to the driver of a silver sedan that may have been at the intersection of Davies and Morris streets at the time of the crash.
