Parramatta turns into winter wonderland this week
Prince Alfred Square will be turned into a winter wonderland from Friday when Parramatta’s annual festival returns.
Parramatta’s annual winter wonderland returns this weekend combining music, art, markets and food with a huge ice skating rink and slide.
Winterlight returns to Parramatta’s Prince Alfred Square for the ninth year from July 5-21 and features an open-air ice rink, a ferris wheel, a 30m ice slide, carnival rides, night markets, music, art and interactive workshops.
DJs, stilt-walkers, fire dancers and cabaret shows will keep the atmosphere pumping each night while foodie favourites BlackBear BBQ and Gelato Messina join the The Alpine Food Village.
The facade of St Patrick’s Cathedral’s will be lit up with colourful projections each night from July 6 and the new addition of night markets will run from July 8-11.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Andrew Wilson said the event was a “captivating experience for the senses”.
“With Sydney’s largest ice rink, live shows, amazing food stalls and a huge range of family-friendly activities, there is something for everyone to enjoy,” he said.
“There really is no better way to enjoy winter.”
Entry to Winterlight is free, tickets can be purchased online or at the event for the skate, slide and rides and cabaret shows.
