Parramatta: Policeman allegedly assaulted, four men charged

OC spray had to be used to quell a wild brawl that allegedly saw an acting sergeant punched in the face after four men were ejected from a western Sydney licensed venue.

A police officer has undergone treatment at Westmead Hospital for a nose injury and swelling to his cheek after he was allegedly assaulted by four men in Parramatta on Saturday night.

The four men will face court on more than 20 charges after the incident at a licensed premises on Church St.

Parramatta police were called to the licensed premises just after 8.30pm after they were told a group of men had been ejected but refused to leave the area.

Police ordered the men to move on but despite some members of the group attempting to make the others leave, two of the men allegedly became aggressive and one grabbed a police officer from behind in a bear hug before other cops could restrain him.

The group’s lift arrived and when they attempted to get the man into the car, he allegedly approached an Acting Sergeant and punched him in the face.

When officers attempted to restrain the man, three of his associates allegedly resisted police and OC spray was used subdue the men.

Four men – aged 21, 23, 24, and 29 – were arrested and taken to Parramatta police station.

The 29-year-old Stanhope Gardens man was charged with two counts each of assaulting an officer in execution of duty and resisting an officer in the execution of duty, and assaulting a police officer in the execution of duty causing actual bodily harm, excluding a person failing to leave premises when required, and excluding a person remain in vicinity of licensed premises.

The 21-year-old Whalan man was charged with affray, behaving in an offensive manner in/near public place, two counts of resisting officers in the execution of duty, excluding a person failing to leave premises when required, and excluded person remain in vicinity of a licensed premises.

The 24-year-old Guildford man was charged with armed with intent commit indictable offence, behaving in an offensive manner in/near public place, three counts of resist officer in the execution of duty, excluded person fail to leave premises when required, and excluding a person remaining in the vicinity of a licensed premises.

The 23-year-old Whalan man was charged with two counts of resisting an officer in the execution of duty, excluding a person failing to leave the premises when required, and excluded person remain in vicinity of licensed premises.

The men were granted strict conditional bail and are due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday, April 8.
