A 28-year-old man has been charged and his licence suspended for six months after being detected driving more than 100km/h over the speed on the Cumberland Highway at Greystanes.

Police said they detected a Subaru WRX travelling beyond the 70km/h limit on Saturday just before 9pm.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers checked the vehicle’s speed using lidar and it was allegedly giving a reading of 180km/h.

The WRX was stopped just north of Merrylands Rd and police spoke with the driver.

He was charged for exceeding the speed limit over 45km/h and driving recklessly, furiously or at speed or manner dangerous.

The Quakers Hill man is due to appear at Fairfield Court on Tuesday, March 17.

Police have also suspended the man’s licence for six months and seized his vehicle’s numberplates.
