Plans for a 13-storey tower to replace the Club Parramatta carpark will generate 1000 jobs when it opens in 2024, Payce developers pledge.
Payce purchased the carpark at 7 Macquarie St from Castle Hill RSL Group in 2019 and plans to transform the site with a commercial building.
Under a development application lodged with Parramatta Council, there will be a cafe on the ground floor and a two-level carpark with 60 car spaces and 66 bicycles.
“There will be a cafe on the ground floor that will provide improved amenity to the western part of the Parramatta CBD, building on the vision to attract new eateries to complement the already thriving food and hospitality scene,’’ a Payce spokesman said.
The spokesman said the project would generate 200 jobs during construction and 1000 jobs on completion.
“The 11,260sq m commercial building is well located, close to Bankwest Stadium, the new Parramatta Aquatic Leisure Centre, the new Metro station and light rail and with extensive views over Parramatta Park,’’ he said.
“Payce believes the location, with its excellent connections to public transport, will prove attractive to corporate tenants.’’
Subject to approval, construction is due to start late next year following the completion of Club Parramatta’s carpark on the opposite side of Macquarie St. Work is expected to be completed in 2024.
However, the developers will have to overcome heritage hurdles before approval because of the project’s proximity to UNESCO-listed Parramatta Park and Old Government House.
The Payce spokesman said the proposal was consistent with the Conservation Agreement for Old Government House and Domain, “allowing the City of Parramatta to determine the development application”.
Outside the CBD, Payce is developing the $6 billion, 6000-apartment Melrose Park where there will also be a town centre, retail village and parklands.
