Plans for a 24-hour modern Australian, licensed 156-seat restaurant at Parramatta Leagues Club have been submitted to Parramatta Council.

The restaurant will occupy the ground floor of the club alongside the carpark and will feature a main pavilion area of about 300sq m, a lift, a bar and a new entry from the existing foyer to the altered merchandise store.

A Parramatta Leagues Club spokesman said it was part of a proposal to expand its Eels Lane precinct by building a permanent pavilion that will house a restaurant for members and guests.

“Through the ongoing improvements we are making at the club and our future proposals like the hotel development, we want to develop a sports and entertainment precinct that not only complements event days at Bankwest Stadium but becomes a destination in its own right especially as Parramatta grows its night-time economy over the coming years,’’ the spokesman said.

“These developments fit in with our strategic plan to diversify the business and expand our offerings for the community.’’

A Parramatta Eels spokesman said the restaurant would expand from being a game-day venue to be used every day.

The $140 million, 200-room hotel is also proposed for the club and is being assessed by the Planning Department.

The 17-storey hotel and function centre has drawn opposition, with objectors citing traffic concerns and that the facility will clash with the character of nearby heritage buildings.

The restaurant will connect with the club’s foyer.

A development application for the restaurant was lodged with Parramatta Council this week, when more plans for the Eels’ $40 million Centre of Excellence at Kellyville Park were released.

Plans include a 1500-seat grandstand, five playing fields, multiple gymnasiums, yoga rooms for players, theatre/review rooms, aquatic rehabilitation facilities, and changing rooms.

There would also be medical offices, multipurpose rooms, match day media rooms and cardio facilities.

The Federal Government has pledged $15 million towards the construction bill with the remaining to come from State Government grants, the Hills Shire council funding and the club.

If fully approved, construction on the centre will begin next year and wrap up by the end of 2024.
