Parramatta: Man imprisoned for assaulting guards at Ultra Australia

A 21-year-old thug has been sent to prison for assaulting two security guards outside a big music festival in Parramatta.

A 21-year-old thug has been sent to prison for assaulting two security guards outside a big music festival in Parramatta.

Ahmad Hassoun, 21, formerly from Chester Hill, was outside the Ultra Australia music festival at Parramatta Park on Sunday, February 24 when he started to assault a security guard.

Hassoun punched the security guard in the face numerous times and kicked another guard in the jaw before being pepper sprayed by police and arrested.

He was sentenced to a term of seven months imprisonment with a non-parole period of four months at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday for the two assault charges.

Hassoun has a history of violence including previous charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

On February 24, Ultra Australia 2019 was staged in Parramatta Park and was completely fenced off.

Police and security were spread out along the fence line to stop people jumping the fence or throwing illegal drugs to patrons inside.

About 7.30pm, security approached a group of people in bushland near the fence line and the group ran away. Shortly after, a security guard saw two members of the group, including Hassoun, and approached them to ask what they were doing near the fence.

Police facts stated Hassoun began to punch the guard and the guard pulled him to the ground. A second security guard came to help and restrained the second male who was interfering.

"While he was attempting to restrain the second male the accused has kicked out his foot and kicked [the security guard] in the face, causing immediate pain to the victim's jaw," police facts said.

Police were alerted and witnessed Hassoun punching one of the guards.

Police rushed over and used pepper spray to restrain Hassoun before arresting him.

Hassoun told police he did not remember anything from the incident as he has schizophrenia.

Magistrate Peter Feather told Hassoun in court that he had been given plenty of opportunities in the past to rehabilitate himself in the community.

"You have had every opportunity over the past five years to rehabilitate yourself but you have not been able to do so."

He said his prospects of rehabilitation were "extremely guarded" and the only fitting punishment was a term of imprisonment.
