A Northmead man who was allegedly drunk and ran a red light, hit four pedestrians and drove away from the intersection of Marsden and Argyle streets at Parramatta, told a court he would plead guilty to his multiple charges.

Police allege Hosea Niyomwungere, 23, was driving a Ford Focus when he struck two men and two women crossing at the intersection of Marsden and Argyle streets on December 28 shortly before 9pm.

Police allege the Ford stopped and Mr Niyomwungere and his passengers — a man and a woman — got out to assist the injured pedestrians, but the men returned to the car and drove away.

Police later found the car nearby and seized it for examination.

The pedestrians were rushed to Westmead Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Mr Niyomwungere and a 21 year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested when they returned to the scene and were taken to Parramatta police station.

Police allege Mr Niyomwungere underwent a breath test and returned a positive result. He was allegedly unable to provide a satisfactory sample to a secondary breath analysis.

The passengers were released but Mr Niyomwungere was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, failing to stop and assist after causing injury, not giving particulars to an injured person and negligent driving.

At Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday, Mr Niyomwungere told Magistrate Rodney Brender he wanted to plead guilty but requested an adjournment because he was rejected by legal aid.

Magistrate Brender told him he would hold the guilty plea until his next appearance of March 24.
