They have made their training headquarters in The Hills and now the Parramatta Eels are supporting the redevelopment of Kellyville Park to foster emerging talent.

The Hills Shire Council will ink a licence agreement with the Eels for the redevelopment of the park, where they train, as a “premier rugby league facility”, as part of the park’s masterplan.

The venue — which already has three rugby league playing fields — will foster young rugby league players who aspire to reach a representative or elite level.

Parramatta Eels chief executive officer Jim Sarantinos said the partnership would allow the park to become the “best rugby league facility in Australia”.

“The project is testament to the great relationship our club has with the council and we look forward to seeing the precinct come to life for the local community over the coming years,” Mr Sarantinos added.

The Hills Shire Mayor Michelle Byrne welcomed the agreement with the Eels in an effort to drive grassroots sport in the community.

She said the Eels were “the governing body for rugby league in our shire and they wish to work with council to provide facilities and opportunities for residents”.

The Eels relocated from training in their spiritual home of the Old Salesyards at North Parramatta last year to the $40 million high-performance training centre at Kellyville Park. Recently, the council awarded a $1.4 million construction tender for two more double playing fields at the site.

The licensing agreement will be on public exhibition for 28 days.
