No pest control, adding illegal preservatives to meat, exposing food to contamination and abandoning basic hygiene are some of the offences that led restaurants across Cumberland and Parramatta to be on a name and shame list.
Under par eateries from 11 suburbs across the Cumberland and Parramatta areas have been slapped with fines after a NSW Food Authority blitz on health and hygiene standards since January.
At Auburn, restaurants penalised for breaches including the Star Taste Chinese Restaurant which racked up $2640 in fines in January for failing to eradicate pests (despite a previous warning), not having a food temperature measuring device and failing to ensure food equipment surfaces were clean and sanitary.
In the same month, Taste 101 Auburn got slapped with $1540 for not sticking to a prohibition order and $880 for not controlling the temperature on its food displays.
Auburn Seafood was fined $880 for improper control of temperatures in its food display area — an offence for which it had already been warned.
Village Tavern Auburn was fined $880 in March for failing to have a sewage and waste water disposal system up to code.
In February, the New Star Kebab Restaurant at Auburn Rd was penalised $1760 for failing to store potentially hazardous food under the right temperature and for not maintaining a clean eatery.
At Toongabbie, Mathura Dine-In and Takeaway was fined a total of $5280 for six offences in January for failing to cool cooked potentially hazardous food; failing to ensure staff have skills and knowledge in food safety and hygiene, food safety and food hygiene matters; and failing to maintain clean food equipment surfaces.
The eatery had reoffended despite being warned previously for each offence.
Raj Bhavan, also at Toongabbie, was slapped with a $440 fine for failing to display potentially hazardous food at the right temperatures and $440 for failing to store food to prevent it from contamination.
At Pendle Hill, Jeffna Restaurant was fined $880 in January for failing to ensure food contact surfaces of equipment were clean and sanitary, and for failing to store potentially hazardous food under temperature control. Previous warnings had been issued for both offences.
Westmead’s Goodfellas is $2640 out of pocket for failing to eradicate pests, failing to provide soap near its hand washing stations and not meeting clean standards for maintaining fixtures, fittings and equipment when it was inspected in January.
At Wentworthville, Sri Lakshmi Supermarket was hit with a $1540 fine in March when it failed to comply with a prohibition order — the penalty it got for the same offence in February.
Repeat offenders Swagath Biryani House copped three fines worth $2640 in January for not supplying soap or disposable hand use towels, failing to store potentially hazardous food under temperature control and not storing food to protect it from contamination.
Merrylands’ Francis Meats was penalised $2640 for selling beef mince with the illegal preservative sulphur dioxide three times.
At the Crystal Carwash Cafe at Pitt St, the owners coughed up $800 for failing to have warm running water near its sink.
At South Granville, L’oven Craft Bakery’s failure to eradicate pests, not having properly constructed floors to ensure effective cleaning, not labelling food properly and not providing proper fixtures, fittings and equipment led to a $3520 fine for the February breaches.
The Ferndell St bakery is now listed under a different name.
At Granville Kebab House at South St failure to store food at the correct temperature led it to be penalised $440 for the January offence.
Red Rooster at Ermington was fined $880 in February for failing to maintain a clean premises.

At Lidcombe, Palbok House was fined a total of $1760 for failing to maintain a clean premises and not providing single use towels at its sink in February.
At Berala, the Wonderful Noodle Bar and Restaurant copped an $880 fine in March for failing to provide napkins near its hand washing basin despite previous warnings given.
