A 22-year-old woman who was critically injured when her station wagon collided with a sports car at Merrylands West on September 7 has died in hospital.

The woman was driving a Subaru wagon at the Cumberland Highway-Bruce St intersection at 10.30pm when her car colided with a Nissan Skyline and burst into flames.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the driver before she was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition. She was unable to recover from her injuries and she died in hospital yesterday.

The 32-year-old man who was driving the Nissan Skyline, and his 32-year-old male passenger, remain in Westmead Hospital with head and internal injuries.

Cumberland police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

As part of inquiries, police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident, or might have video or dashcam footage, to contact Crime Stoppers. Police are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was travelling along the Cumberland Highway around the time of the collision.

Cumberland Deputy Mayor Eddy Sarkis said the intersection was a blackspot where drivers often sped.

“That spot in particular has had a lot of accidents which are near death,’’ he said.

“If you’re southbound it comes down pretty steeply so you might find it hard to predict from the cars coming north heading south.”

NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated the rider of the motorcycle – a 45-year-old man – before he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
