Constitution Hill man Kathees Ponnuthurai — who is accused of trying to import almost 1kg of methylamphetamine worth $300,000 from overseas — has been charged after Australian Border Force intercepted the parcel.
Australian Border Force and Parramatta police started an investigation last month after ABF officers intercepted the package and discovered methylamphetamine.
The drugs have been seized and are undergoing more forensic examination.
On Thursday, investigators searched a house at Geoffrey St, Constitution Hill, where Ponnuthurai, 29, was arrested before being taken to Parramatta police station.
He was charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug.
At Parramatta Local Court on Friday, Ponnuthurai’s lawyer Hikmat Al Malliki did not apply for bail and it was refused.
Ponnuthurai did not appear via video link from custody.
The matter will return to court on November 5, when a Tamil interpreter will be required.
