Kristian Kovaleff pleads guilty to murder of girl at Meriton apartments in Parramatta

A man has pleaded guilty to the murder of a 17-year-old girl at a Parramatta apartment tower after a party descended into hell a week before Christmas.

Kristian Kovaleff has pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing a 17-year-old girl and leaving another in a critical condition at the Meriton Suites at Parramatta in December 2020 when a party spiralled out of control.

Kovaleff was 19 when he was charged with murder of the teen and left another teenager fighting for her life after the stabbings at the Church St apartment tower on December 18 between 7.32pm and 10.37pm.

Police were called to the building at 10.45pm after one of the girls was found bleeding from stab wounds in the foyer of the block.

Cops were alerted to a second teen in a hotel room upstairs, who was found with several stab wounds to her torso.

Paramedics performed CPR on the girl and rushed her to Westmead Hospital, where she died on arrival.

The girl found in the lobby was rushed to hospital and was in a critical condition on arrival, which was later downgraded to stable.

Hours after the girls were knifed, Kovaleff went to Parramatta police station with his father and handed himself into police.

At Parramatta Local Court on Thursday, the court heard via an email from Kovaleff’s lawyer that he pleaded guilty to murder and wound person intend to cause grievous bodily harm.

He will be sentenced at the Supreme Court on May 6.
