Jeanne Marais convicted of dangerous driving after crash at Wentworthville

A driver involved in a serious crash on a western Sydney highway has learned her fate for dangerous driving, which left herself and a man trapped.

A Blue Mountains woman has been convicted of dangerous driving after a serious crash with two other vehicles in Sydney’s west.

Jeanne Marais, 22, was driving dangerously at the Great Western Highway and Jersey Rd intersection at Wentworthville, on November 11 about 11.30pm.

The Springwood woman’s hatchback collided with a semi-trailer and a Toyota hatchback, where police said a 24-year-old passenger was trapped for a substantial time before Fire and Rescue NSW personnel released him.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him before he was taken to Westmead Hospital.

The 43-year-old truck driver was uninjured.

Marais was trapped in her Hyundai hatchback for a short time before firefighters released her.

The Crash Investigation and Forensic Imaging units began investigating the incident.

Following inquiries, Marais presented to Springwood Police Station on November 24.

She was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Another charge of negligent driving occasions grievous bodily harm was withdrawn on May 28.

Marais pleaded not guilty to the dangerous driving charge and the case proceeded to a hearing at Parramatta Local Court on Friday.

Magistrate Arthur Aguirre convicted Marais that day and sentenced her to a 12-month community correction order.

She is disqualified from driving for 12 months from June 20. Her bail was continued.
