Arsonists have targeted the front of porch of a western Sydney home in a second attack in five months.

Police are appealing for public assistance after a second fire was lit at the Metella Rd address in Toongabbie.

The first fire was set at 1am on Saturday, December 22 last year, when a plastic container with an accelerant inside was set alight on the front porch. At the time three men — aged 58, 68, and 71 — were asleep inside.

The fire caused significant damage to the front of the house, and minor burns to the 68-year-old man.

Again last week at 12.20am on Wednesday, April 24, fire brigades were called to the same home on fire, with all three of the same occupants asleep inside.

Police confirmed the residents of the home noticed a car idling in front of the home before the fire was lit.

No one was injured, but the fire caused damage to the roofing at the front of the home.

Detectives from Blacktown police were at the scene of both fires, and are continuing extensive inquiries into their suspicious circumstances under strike force Granuaille.

The second was lit by an accelerant being poured over the front porch and later ignited.

Detectives have released CCTV of the recent fire, from a vantage point across the road. In the footage a white car, described as a station wagon, is seen driving past the scene, and a man running from the blaze.

Police urge anyone with information — or who may have seen the car around the area during the time of the incident — to come forward.
