A $3.12 million social housing project for seniors and tenants with a disability is due to open in Eve St, Guildford, where 20 construction jobs will be created.
Parramatta state Liberal MP Geoff Lee said the State Government would build 10 two-storey homes to replace two ageing cottages.
There will be four one-bedroom and six two-bedroom units, with ground-floor units for residents with mobility restrictions.
“These modern, fit-for-purpose units have been designed to the highest standards
and will deliver immediate economic benefits while providing safe and comfortable
housing for some of the area’s most vulnerable residents,” Mr Lee said.
“As we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, social housing projects
like this also provide guaranteed jobs and income for the local construction industry,
while delivering new homes for those who need them most.”
Housing Minister Melinda Pavey said the project demonstrated how the government was redeveloping existing sites into well-designed homes that are close to shops, transport links and essential services.
Academy Construction and Development director Ronnie Beaini said the
project would create opportunities for local subcontractors and tradespeople, including
several apprentices.
“Academy Construction and Development acknowledge the opportunities of the
project in this difficult climate for all involved and look forward to working with the NSW
Land and Housing Corporation to deliver the project on time and on budget,” Mr Beaini
said.
The complex’s primary frontage will be reoriented to Blaxcell St.
