Greystanes, South Wentworthville: Rocks, food thrown at vehicles on M4

The cost-of-living crisis doesn’t appear to be hitting everyone hard, with thugs using food as projectiles to target vehicles on the M4. See the damage from incidents that police believe are linked.

Food and rocks are being hurled at vehicles travelling on the M4 in Sydney’s west, prompting police to release images of the damaged cars in a public appeal for information.

Projectiles, believed to be food, were thrown from the Cumberland Highway overpass on to the M4 on Sunday about 7.30am, when there were no reports of damage.

But the following day, a rock struck a car when it was thrown from the Coleman St overpass at South Wentworthville about 8am.

Cumberland police said no one was injured during the incident.

On Tuesday morning, police were called to the M4 at Greystanes, between the Pitt and Coleman St overpasses, after reports an item had struck a bus.

Police said an unknown projectile had struck it about 8.50am. No injuries were reported.

A NSW Police statement said: “Police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents, with initial inquiries suggesting they may be linked.”

They have urged anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
