A single mother’s death has left her western Sydney family shattered after she died from influenza A last Friday.

Toongabbie woman Rachael McEwen died at home aged just 45, leaving the family in “complete shock”.

Ms McEwen’s mother, Pauline Hickman, has organised a GoFundMe campaign following the devastating news to help support her daughter’s four children, aged eight to 21.

“Words cannot describe the immense grief and loss we are feeling,’’ Ms Hickman said.

“Rachael was a ray of sunshine, the life of every gathering and brought so much joy to everyone who knew her. This loss is truly devastating.’’

The GoFundMe campaign aims to raise $20,000 to ease immediate financial demands for the family so expenses such as paying rent can be covered.

“Not only are her children experiencing immense grief, they are now faced with many financial burdens and uncertainty,’’ Ms Hickman said.

“This fundraising goal will allow the children to stay in their home while they mourn the loss of their beautiful mum and adjust to life without her.

“Any contribution, big or small, will go towards ongoing support for Rachael’s children.’’
