Central Coast man Garry Allan Jones, who allegedly sent sexually explicit material to a ‘14-year-old girl’ before arranging to meet up has been arrested at Westmead.
Strike Force Trawler arrested the 63-year-old Hamlyn Terrace man about 10.20am when they seized his mobile phone, cash and a prescription drug before he was taken to Granville police station and charged with using a carriage service to procure a child under 16 years for sexual activity.
The charge follows a month-long investigation when the Child Abuse and Sex Crime Squad’s Child Exploitation Internet Unit detectives began engaging online with a man whom allegedly believed he was speaking with a 14-year-old girl.
Police allege the man engaged in conversations about sex and sent explicit material.
It was also alleged he arranged to meet the girl in person.
After his arrest, police seized two laptops, two phones and multiple electronic storage devices when they searched his home.
At Parramatta Local Court on Friday, Jones appeared briefly via video link and no application for bail was made. It was formally refused.
The matter will return to court on September 18.
