A Merrylands woman stabbed her husband several times with a knife in a bloody domestic assault before trying to use their neighbours as a cover up.

Fizza Hussain, 33, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, and two counts of using an offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence when she appeared at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday (April 6).

Hussain was seeking to be dealt with under Section 14, which allows a court to discharge someone into mental health treatment instead of sentencing them under criminal legislation.

Facts reveal that at about 1am on December 14, the pair disagreed over who would clean up after a barbecue.

During the argument, Hussain threw her passport at her husband of five years, demanding to be put on a plane back to Pakistan, having been in Australia on a temporary partner visa, according to documents.

Hussain entered the kitchen and returned with a rolling pin, which she used to strike her husband over the head.

The man attempted to de-escalate the situation, retreating to the bathroom, however Hussain followed him and again used the rolling pin to whack him “all over the body”, the court heard.

Hussain tried to break the victim’s phone as he desperately tried to dial triple-000.

The victim told Hussain he would call the police as she then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and threatened to harm herself and tell their neighbours a false alibi, facts state.

The victim revealed he was recording the interaction, before Hussain “slashed” him several times to his body, causing several cuts.

Facts state the man cried out in fear and pain.

The man continued to record as his enraged wife again lunged toward him, using the knife to stab his torso and arms, the court heard.

Shortly after, Hussain left their home and told neighbours the victim had assaulted her, according to facts.

When police arrived shortly after they saw the man had suffered a “large cut” under his armpit, among several other cuts across his body, as well as head swelling.

Paramedics were called.

The court heard Hussain was “inconsolable” when police arrived and had no criminal record in Australia.

Police were unable to interview Hussain at the time due to no Urdu translator being available.

Magistrate Cate Follent said the facts were serious.

“The max penalty for this offence is seven years in jail,” Ms Follent said.

Ms Follent said Hussain had started psychiatric treatment, but ultimately refused the mental health application.

“On the basis of the seriousness of the allegations, the court can’t grant the application,” Ms Follent said.

Hussain will face Parramatta Local Court on June 6 for sentence.
