An overheated solar panels has sparked a fire at the King’s School at North Parramatta on Thursday.
NSW Fire and Rescue dispatched crews to the Pennant Hills Rd private school after a triple 0 call raised the alarm about the fire in the school building shortly before 10.30am, forcing the evacuation of 100 students.
A King’s School spokesman said an isolation switch in a solar panel on the roof above a classroom block of the senior school campus overheated and cuase the fire warning system to be activated.
“Along with our fire warning systems, members of staff also called emergency services, as is procedure,’’ the spokesman said.
“Classrooms in that block were vacated in line with our safety policy. All staff and students were always at a safe distance from the incident, there have been no injuries.
“Once the classrooms were vacated, the block was isolated from use while the NSW Fire Brigade attended the site.”
The spokesman said firefighters and electricians from the solar company panel made the isolation switch inoperable and safe for removal.
“Classrooms in the vicinity remain vacant while repairs take place,’’ the spokesman said.
“There is no damage to property other than the solar panels. King’s is grateful for the rapid response of NSW Fire Brigade.”
The spokesman refused to answer questions about the operation of other solar panels at the school.
