A churchgoer who attended Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Parramatta on July 19 and a child who attended nearby Bayanami Public School while infected on Friday have tested positive to coronavirus.

NSW Health said the Marist Place school has closed while deep cleaning and contact tracing are under way.

Close contacts will be identified and required to self-isolate for 14 days from Friday July 24.

onitor for symptoms and seek testing if they developed symptoms.

The cases add to the growing list of COVID-19 cases across the Parramatta area, including Our Lady of Lebanon Co-Cathedral at Harris Park, Milky Lane burger eatery at Parramatta and Cerdon College at Merrylands.

The local infections were part of 19 new cases diagnosed in the 24 hours to 8pm on Tuesday, bringing the NSW total to 3529.

Three of the new cases are linked to the funeral gatherings cluster, 10 are connected with Thai Rock restaurant at Stockland Wetherill Park and two are associated with the Thai Rock restaurant at Potts Point.

One new case is a staff member at the Apollo restaurant in Potts Point, one is linked to the Crossroads cluster, and two are returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

NSW Health yesterday expanded the public health warning for Potts Point in inner Sydney with confirmation of three new cases linked to the area cluster, and the closure of the Cruising Yacht Club Australia for deep cleaning, after two cases visited the venue.

Anyone who attended the Apollo restaurant from Wednesday July 22 to Sunday 26 July must self-isolate for 14 days from the date of their visit and be tested regardless of symptoms.

There were 18,543 tests reported in the 24-hour reporting period, compared with 16,009 in the previous 24 hours.

Over the past week we have seen record numbers of people being tested (over 30,000 on one day), a six per cent increase this week, and a 60 per cent increase since the start of July.

Anyone feeling unwell – even with the mildest of symptoms such as a runny nose or scratchy throat – must seek testing and self-isolate until they get the result.
