A coronavirus pop-up testing clinic has opened at Marsden St, Parramatta, in response to rising transmission of the pandemic.

The clinic is at Parramatta Community Health Centre in Jeffery House at 162 Marsden St.

Western Sydney Local Health District has set up the clinic near Milky Lane burger eatery at Macquarie St, where a diner visited while infected after being linked to the Crossroads Hotel cluster in Casula.

The temporary walk-in clinic, which is open from Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm, will provide a convenient way for community members to get a free COVID-19 test, including those who have been in COVID-19 case locations such as the Thai Rock restaurant in Stockland Wetherill Park, the Crossroads Hotel and Planet Fitness gym in Casula.

WSLHD chief executive Graeme Loy said referrals were not needed.

“Ensuring our residents have easy access to testing is a crucial part of preventing the spread of COVID-19 and keeping our community safe,” he said.

“I commend our staff who are working tirelessly in response to the changing situation and helping protect the community from any further spread of COVID-19.”

Anyone with any symptoms of COVID-19 should self-isolate and arrange to get tested. Symptoms include sore throat, cough, fever, fatigue (unexplained tiredness) and loss of taste or smell.

WSLHD operates drive-through clinics at Stockland Merrylands and Auburn Community Health Centre, while WentWest operates a drive-through clinic at Murray Farm Reserve, Carlingford.

The clinic follows climbing rates of COVID-19 across NSW and more cases have struck the Parramatta community.

As of 8pm on Sunday there were 20 new cases in NSW, taking the total to 3399 after 21,167 tests were undertaken.

Our Lady of Lebanon Co-Cathedral at Harris Park was forced to shut on Saturday when Father Danny Nour’s son Michael contracted the virus after visiting the Thai Rock restaurant at Wetherill Park where a cluster has formed.

The church, community, youth and pastoral centre have been cleaned.

“Again, we encourage anyone who visited the parish between Wednesday July 15 and Saturday July 18 and is showing symptoms of COVID-19 please get tested,’’ a Facebook post stated.

Anytime Fitness Gym at Merrylands was closed for five hours on Sunday after the gym was informed about an infected member who visited the Military Rd site on July 14 from 9pm to 10.30pm.

Anytime Fitness owner Sandi Reay said the gym was closed for five hours on Sunday when it was deep cleaned and sanitised but reopened in the afternoon.

Ms Reay said a small portion of members visited the gym at the time the infected person was there but NSW Health was contacting members to alert them to self isolate.
