Faye Chahoud and man charged after guns seized at Westmead

A woman allegedly flushed cocaine down a toilet as police were searching a western Sydney home, where they seized a gel-blaster and a firearm hidden in a sock.

A woman who allegedly tried to flush cocaine down a toilet as police searched a Westmead apartment will fight the charges, a court has heard.

Faye Chahoud, 34, and a 24-year-old man were charged after police seized firearms, ammunition and illicit drugs during a search of the Great Western Highway unit on October 28 at 6.45am, when they allegedly discovered a loaded handgun in a sock outside a bedroom window.

They also allegedly found a gel-blaster firearm, ammunition and about 22g of white powder believed to be cocaine, which were seized for further forensic examination.

Police allege in court documents that Ms Chahoud flushed cocaine down the toilet “intending to hinder the discovery of evidence concerning a serious offence committed”.

Ms Chahoud and the man were arrested and taken to Granville police station.

The 24-year-old man was charged with two counts of possess unauthorised pistol, two counts of not keep firearm safely – pistol, and possess ammunition without holding licence or permit or authority.

He was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Local Court on October 29. His matter remains before the courts.

Ms Chahoud was charged with possess ammunition without holding licence or permit or authority, hinder discovery evidence relating to a serious indictable offence, supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), and resist or hinder police officer in execution of duty.

She was granted conditional bail to front Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday when she was excused from appearing in person but the court heard she would plead not guilty.

Bail was continued and the matter will return to court on January 18.

The arrests came after South West Metropolitan Region created Strike Force Hawk, a high-visibility operation which deploys strategies to prevent and disrupt serious and organised crime within the community, in October.

The operation is being run with State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad, which has been proactively targeting more than 300 identified members and alleged associates of criminal networks.

Investigations continue.
