Darrin Jackson pleads guilty to speeding at Gilba Rd Girraween

He was trying to clear up his driving record but a man has been caught with illegal drugs, speeding and a licence that expired when legwarmers were in fashion.

Westmead man Darrin Jackson has pleaded guilty to speeding, driving with a licence that expired when he was 17, possessing unprescribed drugs and getting behind the wheel with stolen numberplates at Girraween on Saturday.

Parramatta Highway Patrol officers arrested the 51-year-old driving a Ford Falcon sedan 87km/h in a 50km/h zone at Gilba Rd where police checks revealed he also got behind the wheel driving with the licence that expired in 1986, driving with stolen ACT numberplates and possessing four packets of Suboxone Film, used to treat drug disorders.

Jackson was taken to Parramatta police station where he was charged with driving a motor vehicle during disqualification period – second offence, using a class A vehicle with an unauthorised numberplate affixed, receiving/disposing stolen property, possessing/attempting to, prescribed restricted substance and speeding more than 30 km/h.

Facts tendered to Parramatta Local Court, where the unemployed man appeared on Thursday, reveal NSW numberplates CD28QJ were found in the car’s front passenger side, as well as an electric Phillip’s drill that were compatible to the stolen plates.

“Regarding stolen registration plates, he denied involvement in the actual stealing of the property but made admissions in relation to taking possession of the property knowing it to be stolen,’’ the court papers state.

“When questioned in relation to why the plates were displayed on the motor vehicle the accused made admissions to the plates being displayed with an intent to deceive and avoid detection.’’

The court heard how Jackson had to report to Community Corrections for a separate offence and he was undertaking a traffic offenders and merit program.

Court documents allege he is subject to an intensive corrections order for a previous drug matter before the court.

The most recent matter was adjourned to April 15 and his bail was continued.

Jackson was arrested as part of Operation Fume — a crackdown targeting poor driving over the weekend when more than 130 infringements were issued across western and northwest Sydney.

During the operation, six cars were issued with defect notices, six criminal charges and four traffic charges were laid.

Police conducted 678 breath tests, with two people charged with drink-driving offences – including one for mid-range PCA and one for high range drink driving.

The Hills Highway Patrol arrested a 37-year-old man at Freeman Ave, Castle Hill, on Saturday when they allegedly found stolen identification documents and a mobile phone in a white Holden Commodore.

He was charged with goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen (not motor vehicle). He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
