Coronavirus NSW: St Paul’s Greystanes cases grow to three

The number of coronavirus cases at a western Sydney Catholic high school has increased, while the source of the original case at the college is still under investigation.

Three more students at St Paul’s College Greystanes have been diagnosed with coronavirus, while the source of the original case at the all boys’ high school is still under investigation.

NSW Health has released a statement that said the trio attend Year 10 at the all boys’ Catholic School and were identified as close contacts.

The Parramatta Diocese posted … saying the total number of cases has risen to six.

The students have been directed to undertake testing and isolate for 14 days.

The school, which was shut from yesterday after a student tested positive at the weekend, will remain closed while contact tracing is under way.

Three new cases attend St Paul’s Catholic College at Greystanes. All Year 10 students at St Paul’s Greystanes have been identified as close contacts and directed to get tested and isolate for 14 days.

The school will remain closed for onsite learning while contact tracing is under way. The source of the original case at St Paul’s is still under investigation.

Girraween Public School was also forced to shut on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday after a student tested positive to the virus.

“All staff and students are asked to self-isolate while contact tracing occurs,’’ the school said in a statement.

“While we recognise this will be disruptive and inconvenient for many families, it is important that we follow NSW Health advice and take all necessary precautions to minimise the risk of further transmission to support our community.’’

The closure will allow the school to complete contact tracing and be cleaned.

Across NSW, 13 cases were reported in the 24 hours to 8pm on Monday.

There were 14,815 tests reported in the 24-hour reporting period, compared with 14,232 in the previous 24 hours.

Of the 13 new cases to 8pm last night, two are returned travellers in hotel quarantine, 11 are locally acquired and linked to a known case or cluster and seven new cases are linked to the August CBD cluster.

Of those, two work at Reddam Early Learning Centre at Lindfield, one visited Tattersalls City Gym, two are household contacts of previous cases and two are close contacts of previous cases.

There is now a total of 41 cases associated with the CBD cluster.

One new case is linked to cases at the Liverpool Hospital.

NSW Health is treating 73 COVID-19 cases, including six in intensive care and three who are ventilated. Eighty-six per cent of cases being treated by NSW Health are in non-acute, out-of-hospital care.
